In 2003, the Legislature of the State of Arkansas enacted
legislation in Act 754 of 2003 to require that local communities with floodplain
management ordinances:
1. appoint a floodplain
manager to administer local floodplain management laws, and
2. obtain accreditation
of the floodplain administrator through the Arkansas Soil and Water Conservation
Commission
The purpose of the
legislation was to make sure that local floodplain management regulations were
properly administered, thereby reducing the likelihood of future flood damages
to property owners in Arkansas.
