Recognizing that project needs exist in all areas of the State, the Commission seeks to encourage a fair geographic distribution of grant funds by limiting the number of open grants in a community at any given time. To that end, incorporated municipalities may have only a single categorical CDBG grant open at a time while counties may have a total of two open categorical CDBG grants issued to the county at a time.
Categorical grants are Water or Wastewater Infrastructure Improvement Grants, grants to fund Childcare Centers, Senior Citizen Centers, Public Health Units, Community Centers, Fire Protection, Innovated Use grants, etc…
The other type of grant, which does not count towards this total, is an Economic Development grant, which funds projects primarily focused on creating jobs for low and moderate-income families.
